2011 Champions!
Congratulations to our three 2011 Champions! Yes, three Champions, Pat Bliss, a long time competitor, always a front runner, but not until the Season just past, did he bring home the coveted title as the Washington Midget Racing Association Champion Driver. For the first time since 1991, when Rick Moss dominated, a Dirt Division Champion was named, and it was Tony Seidelman, who is also a veteran WMRA chauffeur. The third Champion, Tom Maples, of course, who owned both red number 98 cars! The Championship didn't come easy in either division and it was hard work, perseverance, skillful driving and management that brought it all home.
Rick Moss made a welcome appearance at the October 8th WMRA general meeting and after twenty years, returned the perpetual Dirt Championship Trophy to the club so it could be presented to the first new dirt Champion since he garnered the title back in 1991, thanks Rick, and all agreed, it was sure good to see you again.
The first time in two decades WMRA has awarded joint Championships, and one owner was the recipient of both! If you follow WMRA you know the tough year Maples Racing Team had, but they never let up, no matter how tough the situation, there were there to race, and it was grueling, including a quick trip to Indiana to get a new car after the first race when the Beast/Ed Pink Ford was wrecked beyond repair. Again, a complete rebuild after the new car was very badly damaged in a shunt with the turn two cement wall at Wenatchee. On the dirt they fared better, but dividing their time between both cars left little relaxation for Tom, Pat, or Tony.
A Championship performance by all involved and WMRA is pleased to have men like these, who follow equally deserving racers who have worn the title since 1946.
